The
Bull is delighted to be the host for this ultra-rare appearance of
the
legendary Ivor Cutler. He is a
novelist, poet, writer, composer,
musician,
playwright, cartoonist, actor and TV & Radio personality.
He
is Scotland’s finest eccentric, the oddly attired, totally sublime
and
completely unmissable Ivor Cutler.
Born
in 1923, Mr Cutler (as he likes to be addressed) left his native Scotland in
1951 because ‘everyone thought he was a nutter’. Moving to London he worked for
30 years for ILEA – The Inner London Education Authority, during which time he
involved himself in a myriad of artistic activities.
Ivor
Cutler
speaks and writes with humour and wit as dry as the Sahara. He is master of
lateral thinking, off-beat insights and odd odes. Answering questions his
audiences didn’t know needed asking, he is the embodiment of the term ‘deadpan’.
From the hygienic way to drink water from the gutter to the sexual properties of
velcro his stupendously bizarre logic and language have delighted all who have
discovered him (and the child in themselves).
Ivor Cutler has worked with everyone from Peter Cook and Ken Russell to Van Morrison and The Beatles (with whom he played Buster Bloodvessel in their Magical Mystery Tour film.) He became known through appearances on Monday Night at Home on the BBC Home Service and his dozen of radio sessions on John Peel’s Radio One show over the last 25 years. And then there are his songs – mostly in the key of B flat – books and poetry which he started writing at the tender age of 42 and for which he has had numerous recordings on Virgin and Rough Trade.
Don’t
miss this one and only chance to miss this impressive man - book early.
